$CRIP Program
What is "SCRIP"?
SCRIP is simply another name for gift certificates. The Muscatine Catholic Community parish makes gift certificates available from many stores where we all shop: grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, home improvement stores, bookstores, department stores, specialty stores, etc. The program works by parents, friends, relatives, and parish members purchasing SCRIP through the program to use when shopping at any of the merchants available.
How does Bishop Hayes School profit from SCRIP?
The SCRIP program buys gift certificates at a discount price and resells them to our customers at face value. We purchase some of them directly from local merchants; others are purchased through companies who buy certificates in large quantities to qualify for the discounted pricing. The discounts range from 2-17%. Some of that discount pays for the shipping costs of the certificates; the remainder of that percentage is profit for the school.
How do I buy SCRIP?
You may purchase SCRIP in several ways:
- SCRIP is kept on-hand and sold in the school office during the week or at church after weekend masses.
- You may submit an order form with payment to the school. Using the order form, you may shop from a tremendous selection of merchants. Orders can be picked up after mass, mailed to you, picked-up at Bishop Hayes School or sent home with your student. Order forms are available at mass, the school or online (above).
How do I use SCRIP?
The great part about this program is that SCRIP is treated and accepted just like cash in the stores. You simply present them at the register for payment of your purchases. While SCRIP does make the perfect gift that is never the wrong color or size, try not to limit the use of SCRIP to gift giving. Using SCRIP for your everyday purchases instead of cash benefits our school every time.
Does the entire value of the SCRIP have to be used at once?
Most stores do give back change if you do not use the entire value of the SCRIP on a single transaction for paper certificates. However many of the certificates come in card form and the amount of purchase is deducted from the pre-paid face value of the card.
Are there limits to the amount of SCRIP I can use at any one store?
No. Just as no store would put a limit on how much cash you could spend in their store, the stores will gladly accept any amount you wish to spend.
